Astronomy

Astrophotography is a very different technique to any other. The images you see in this gallery are, mostly, a combining of many exposures of the "target" whilst tracking the sky with computerised telescope mounts and then using some specialist software to stack and create the final images. If you are interested in taking up this fascinating hobby, Northern Optics in Scunthorpe are well worth a visit for excellent guidance and very good value. The web site is http://shop.northernoptics.co.uk/

We also have a North Lincs Astro Society which meets on the first Monday of each month at Far Ings National Nature Reserve (near the Humber Bridge). Please see http://www.northlincsastro.org for more details

See my other website https://annexatchurchviewbarn.com/ for details of how to come and stay and spend some time with the observatory.

My latest image of the Orion nebula - taken with a modified Canon 450D. Compare this with the next image, also of the same nebula. The modified camera allows the sensor to detect a wider spectrum of light than the unmodified camera used for the other image. It is a beautiful nebula found below the belt of Orion.
The Orion Nebula, Messier 42 - my best photo of the nebula to date.
Some 1500 light years away from the earth, the Orion Nebula is a place where stars are formed. Sometimes (on a dark and clear night) you can just make it out as a "grey smudge" under the belt of Orion with the naked eye.
NGC 6995 - The Eastern Veil Nebula. A supernova remnant some 1800 lightyears from earth in the Cygnus constellation.
